Jean Collet & Fils Montee de Tonnerre, Chablis Premier Cru, 2021
Although the Domaine of Jean Collet was only founded in 1952 by Jean himself, generations of the Collet family have farmed the vineyards of Chablis since 1792. Prior to the creation of the Domaine, the grapes were sold off in bulk but 1954 saw the first vintage bottled under the name Jean Collet. The Domaine now has 37 hectares across all levels of Chablis and is run by Jean’s son, Gilles along with Dominique, his wife and Romain, his son.
Montée de Tonnerre, on the right bank of the Serein, lies within the delimited zone of Chablis Premier Crus, an area where the limestone soil is rich in marine fossils. The Montée de Tonnerre is aged for 16 months in 228-litre Burgundy barrels.
There is generous fruit on the nose, and also soft woody aromas. Medium-to-full-bodied, this wine coats the palate but has an edge of minerality and delivers a long satisfying finish.
